Baoding Dingzhou Gongyuan

Dingzhou Gongyuan is located in caochang Hutong, dongdajie street, Dingzhou City, Hebei Province. It was built in 1738 and expanded in 1834. At present, it is the only well preserved examination room for selecting scholars and Gongsheng in the feudal society in northern China, which is called the examination shed among the people. Gongyuan is square in plane, covering an area of 2.21 hectares and a construction area of 1547 square meters. The main building is composed of two groups of buildings: Hao she and Kui Ge. The front of the house is the mountain. Kui Pavilion is located in the south of Hao she, with a sharp top in the middle, and the two sides are lowered in turn, forming a strange appearance, which has become a prominent feature of Dingzhou Gongyuan. The second attic of Kui Pavilion is the place where Kui star is worshipped. The hall is next to the north of the hall, where examinees hand in their papers and examiners seal them. The back building is the place for examiners to watch the martial arts competition and also serves as accommodation. Dingzhou Gongyuan, with its grand scale and grand momentum, not only embodies the architectural characteristics of Qing Dynasty, but also has the flexibility of local architecture. It is the material material for studying the local architectural art and imperial examination system of Qing Dynasty.
