Former residence of Li Jishen

Time: 2022-01-29 16:18:21 Author: ChinaWiki.net

Li Jishen's former residence was built in 1925 with manor style brick and wood structure, covering an area of 3040 square meters. It is a green brick house, a courtyard style wing and building, surrounded by walls and turrets. There is a verdant ancient iron wood forest behind the courtyard, with elegant scenery. There is a piece of marble embedded in the gate, which is engraved with five characters of "Li Jishen's former residence" written by Hu Yaobang himself. Up the escalator to the second floor, the Western railings on the corridors around are unique, and the flowers and plants carved on the doors and windows add ancient color. On the second floor are Li Jishen's bedroom, reception room and telegraph room, which are still the same as before. In 1929, Li Jishen was imprisoned by Chiang Kai Shek, and Tang Shan returned to live here after his release. In 1936, a National Revolutionary Alliance was held here. During the Anti Japanese period, he contacted the KMT and CPC parties and cultural circles, such as Chen Mingshu, Jiang guangnai, Cai tingkai, Zhu Yunshan, Mei Gongbin, Chen Xizhou and Xuan Xiafu, to discuss the Anti Japanese issues behind the enemy lines. In 1944, he accepted Zhou Enlai's suggestion to return to his former residence and organize the people's armed forces. He and a group of patriotic cultural personages sent by Dong Biwu organized the southern Anti Japanese Committee here to carry out Anti Japanese activities in the enemy's rear areas and maintain telecommunication contact with Yan'an.

There is a pier type sidewalk on the tile surface of the former residence, which is connected with the turret on the four corners. It is a building that can attack and defend. After liberation, Li Jishen's former residence had been repaired many times. In 1997, it was listed as a key cultural relic protection unit at the national level and a patriotic education base at the autonomous region level. Visitors marvel at the perfect combination of Chinese and Western architectural art, living room and turret.
