Huamulan cemetery is located at the foot of Wanhua mountain. The cemetery is built on the mountain, covering an area of 18 mu. Pines and cypresses are planted all over the garden. On the tombstone, there are five characters "Tomb of general Hua" written by Shu Yue, a famous calligrapher. On the tomb stands a statue of Hua Mulan on horseback. The horse's front hooves are raised. Hua Mulan is dressed in armor. She holds the reins in her left hand and the sword in her right hand. The statue is 3.5 meters high and 2.5 meters wide, which vividly reproduces Hua Mulan's heroic demeanor. The story of Mulan girl joining the army for her father was widely spread among the people about 1500 years ago. It is said that Hua Mulan, whose family name is Hua, lived in Huayuan village at the foot of Wanhua mountain. When he was 17 years old, because his country was suddenly threatened by war, his father wanted to be called to serve the country, but because he was old and weak, he couldn't do it. So Hua Mulan disguised herself as a man and resolutely joined the army on behalf of her father. On the battlefield, he was brave and good at fighting. In 12 years of desperate battles, he made many achievements and was promoted from a soldier to a general. After the end of the war, the emperor wanted to make him a court minister. Hua Mulan quitted bravely, bid farewell to the emperor and returned to his hometown. When she took off her robe and restored her daughter's make-up, her companions were greatly surprised. They did not expect that the general who had been fighting with her for 12 years was a charming woman. Mulan cemetery was built at the foot of Huajialing mountain in 1984 with special funds from Yan'an municipal government.
