Anfengtang is located 30 kilometers south of Shouxian county. It is one of the four famous water conservancy projects in ancient China (anfengtang, Zhanghe canal, Dujiangyan, Zhengguo canal). It is known as "the first pond in China" and is a national key cultural relics protection unit. The pond dike is 25 kilometers in circumference, covering an area of 34 square kilometers and storing 100 million cubic meters of water. There are 19 sluice gates with irrigation area of 930000 mu. The ancient name of anfengtang is shaopi, which was created by sun shuao, the Prime Minister of Chu, in the spring and Autumn period. It has a history of more than 2500 years. Sun shuao assisted King Zhuang of Chu to become one of the five tyrants in the spring and Autumn period, which was inseparable from his policy of enriching the people and strengthening the country by emphasizing the construction of water conservancy and the development of agricultural production. Anfengtang is the earliest large-scale pond irrigation project in the history of water conservancy in China, with scientific site selection, reasonable project layout and abundant water resources. Its construction provides valuable experience for later large-scale water conservancy projects. For thousands of years, anfengtang has played an important role in irrigation, shipping, and farming. After the founding of the people's Republic of China, the government repeatedly invested funds to repair anfengtang and give full play to the benefits of the ancient pond. Agricultural production in the irrigation area has developed greatly, and Shouxian county has also been listed as the national commodity grain production base county. Some experts and scholars at home and abroad have visited anfengtang water conservancy project. They have a long history, scientific design and construction, and still play a huge benefit.
