Tianbao City

Tianbao city and Dibao city are two important military fortresses built in the period of Taiping Heavenly Kingdom. Tianbao city is located on Xifeng mountain. In today's Zijinshan Observatory, it is built on a cliff, overlooking the whole city. The bunker city is at the foot of Xifeng mountain and outside Taiping gate. The fort is strong. It's easier to defend than to attack. After the Taiping Heavenly Kingdom established its capital Nanjing in 1853, two military fortresses, Tianbao city and Dibao City, were built with local hard tiger skin stones on the top of Tianbao peak and the neck of dragon at the northwest foot of the peak at an altitude of 267 meters. As a strategic base of the Taiping Heavenly Kingdom, they controlled the invading enemies of yaohuamen, Chalukou, qilinmen and shangfangmen in the northeast and Southeast, The Taiping Army confronted the Xiang army. It was in 1864 that the Xiang army first captured Tianbao city before they captured Nanjing. Tianbao city is now on the west, South and east sides. Take the cable car at the foot of the mountain to the station in 15 minutes, and then walk through the forest path to visit the observatory
