Qixingtan is the only county-level scenic spot in Hualien County. Qixingtan is located in Beipu village, Xincheng Town, Hualien County. To the east of Hualien Airport, Qixingtan is a bay protruding from the nose of Meilun. Qixingtan used to be the most prosperous place for the development of fixed fishery in Hualien. In its early years, there were scattered lakes. Now it is generally called Qixingtan, which refers to the area north of Meilun Industrial Zone and Hualien Airport, with a coastline of more than 20 km and a beach width of about 20 km At about 100 meters, most of them belong to gravel beaches, making Qixing lake the best place to step on the waves and pick up stones in the suburbs of Hualien.

Qixingtan is also an important fishing area in Hualien. From north to south, there are three fixed fishing grounds, Dongchang, Chaojin and Jiafeng. People who want to taste fresh seafood can also come to Qixingtan for a taste.

The history of Qixingtan can be traced back to the Qing Dynasty. In the "map of Taiwan and the general map of Taiwan's back mountains" of the Qing Dynasty, it is indicated that there are several low lying wetlands in Hualien, and these wetland lakes of different sizes are Qixingtan. In 1936, when the Japanese built the coastal airfield during the Japanese occupation, the Japanese filled up Qixingtan, so the residents of Qixingtan moved to the Bay near meilunbi, However, these residents still call themselves Qixingtan people. From then on, they called the bay where the residents lived Qixingtan.

At the Seven Star pool, many people will have a question, "where is the pool?"? In fact, today's seven star pool refers to the beautiful bay. There is a reason why this area will become the Seven Star pool. The original location of Qixingtan is not by the sea, but in the area of Hualien Airport. Its place name first appeared in Xia Xianlun's painting "Taiwan's reputation map and general map of Taiwan's back mountain".

This is a map of the back mountain area of Taiwan in the Qing Dynasty. The Qixingtan area shown in the picture is a low-lying wetland with several lakes of different sizes, so it is called "Qixingtan".

In 1936, the Japanese built a "coastal flight field" in the former Qixingtan area, moved the residents of the former Qixingtan area to the bay area, and filled up some lakes. The residents who moved to the bay area still call themselves "Seven Star Lake people" because of their habits. Therefore, the so-called seven star lake now refers to the bay area. Therefore, there is no water in the seven star lake. If you want to find a pool of water, only hancui Lake in Hualien Teachers College and two small ponds in the airport are left. As for the name "seven stars", there is also a legend. Because in the past, when the weather is good at night, without light damage, you can see the stars all over the sky. Because it's the most clear place to see the Big Dipper, it's called "seven stars". Together with the surrounding water, it's called "Seven Star pool".

1. Take Hualian passenger line 105 bus at Hualian railway station and get off at Qixingtan station. It's about 50 minutes' drive and 15 minutes' walk to Qixingtan scenic spot. Hualian railway station departure time: 07:20, 09:30, 11:20, 15:30; Qixingtan departure time: 08:10, 10:20, 12:10, 17:10.
