Yu Youren's former residence, located at No. 52 of Xi'an academy gate (formerly No. 20 and No. 32), was built at the end of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th century. Yu Xiaoxian, Yu Youren's second younger brother, has bought a family house for more than 100 years. The former residence is three rooms wide and 80 meters deep, covering an area of more than 800 square meters and a construction area of 500 square meters. The memorial hall of Yu Youren's former residence in Xi'an is located in the gate of the famous cultural street Academy in Xi'an city. Guanzhong academy, stele forest and other cultural and Museum units are also listed. With a construction area of more than 1500 square meters, he lived in Xi'an before he went to Taiwan in 1949. The memorial hall is a three entrance courtyard with brick and wood structure, which is composed of gatehouse, garden, hall, upper room and backyard. It is a memorial hall with the characteristics of Shaanxi Guanzhong folk houses and the characteristics of the times. The basic exhibition comprehensively shows Yu Youren's legendary life and his artistic achievements in poetry and calligraphy.

Former residence

Wife and daughter living

Since 1937, Yu Youren's wife, Gao Zhonglin, and his eldest daughter, Yu Zhixiu, have lived here. When he returns home, he often lives here. Mother and daughter died here in 1971 and 1972. In his later years, Yu Youren wrote many poems in memory of his wife and daughter who lived here.

Library protection

In 2002, with the strong support of the central government and provincial and municipal leaders, Xi'an began to prepare for the reconstruction of its former residence.

Yu Long, Yu Youren's nephew, and Zhang Ying's husband and wife successively invested more than 10 million yuan to complete part of the reconstruction project in October 2008, which was completed and opened to the public on the occasion of the 130th anniversary of his birth in 2009.
