Monument to the Qinghai Tibet Sichuan Tibet highway

The Qinghai Tibet Sichuan Tibet highway monument is located in the south of Lhasa City, Tibet, on the Bank of Lhasa River. On December 25, 1984, it was built to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the opening of the Qinghai Tibet highway and the Sichuan Tibet highway, and to remember the glorious achievements and great sacrifices of the Chinese people's Liberation Army.

On October 7, 2019, it will be included in the list of the eighth batch of national key cultural relics protection units.

Twenty years later, the Qinghai Tibet railway has been opened to traffic, but the Qinghai Tibet highway and the Sichuan Tibet highway are still the transportation arteries of Tibet.

The full text of the inscription is as follows:

At the beginning of the founding of the people's Republic of China, in order to realize the great cause of the reunification of the motherland, enhance national unity and build the southwest frontier, the central government ordered the liberation of Tibet and the construction of the Sichuan Tibet and Qinghai Tibet highways. The Sichuan Tibet highway starts from Chengdu in the East and was built in April 1950; the Qinghai Tibet highway starts from Xining in the north and starts construction in June 1950, with a total length of more than 4360 km. It was opened to Lhasa on December 25, 1954.

The roof of the world, vast territory, cold hypoxia, snow mountain barrier. The Sichuan Tibet and Qinghai Tibet roads cross the Nujiang River and cross the Kunlun Mountains. One hundred and ten thousand Tibetan and Han military and civilian road construction workers have worked hard to conquer many natural dangers. More than 30 million cubic meters of earth and rock have been excavated and filled, and more than 400 bridges have been built. Five easy cold and heat, arduous. Three thousand people with lofty ideals died bravely, and the achievements of one generation will be forever in history. Over the past 30 years, the state has invested heavily in the reconstruction of the two roads. Qinghai Tibet highway has been built with asphalt pavement. Plateau highway is an ancient miracle. It is famous all over the world and praised by five states.

The two roads run through the lofty plateau. Beijing and Lhasa are closely linked. Brotherhood, intimacy. The highways in Tibet extend in all directions, the economy and culture are prosperous, and the appearance of urban and rural areas has changed. Tibetan and Han compatriots sing and dance lightly, praising it as "Rainbow" and praising it as "Golden Bridge". The future of the new Tibet is bright, and people of all ethnic groups are going forward hand in hand.

On the 30th anniversary of the opening of the two roads, I would like to express my gratitude to the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, cherish the memory of the heroes, and set up Lhasa to commemorate forever.
