On a small island in Xiangshan, Zhejiang Province, stands the most exciting sea erosion landscape Huaao stone forest. Although many columnar joint groups have been found in China, only Zhangpu, Penghu and Hua'ao island have formed sea erosion cliffs, and most of them are gray black basalt landscapes. Huaao stone forest is a very rare fused tuff with bright color and simple shape. Its huge volume is bigger than the stone pillars of Zhangpu and Penghu, and even stronger than the stone pillars of the giant dyke of England, which has a diameter of 40-50 cm.

Huaao stone forest is located in the south of Xiangshan County on the sea of sanmenwankou. The land area of the scenic spot is 11.12 square kilometers, of which Huaao island is 9.83 square kilometers. It is composed of four parts: the natural scenery of the island, coastal erosion landform, sand beach, gravel beach and cultural landscape. There are 36'ao and 108 caves on the island. There are scenes in'ao'and "immortals" in the caves. Tourism resources are very rich, especially the great Foshan with the divine Buddha head, the magnificent stone forest landscape, the mysterious cave, the qingshui'ao gravel beach, the only island pebble wonder in Ningbo City, the anti Qing barracks site in zhangcangshui, the rock appearance of Xiange tower, the sea breeze and the seafood Taste is more famous, known as "sea fairy country, human Yingzhou City".

During the revolution of Ming and Qing Dynasties, Hua'ao island was one of the strongholds of the southeast coast against the Qing Dynasty, where famous national hero Zhang Huangyan gathered his troops. Zhang Huangyan, named cangshui, was born in Yinxian County, Zhejiang Province. Zhang Huangyan insisted on resisting the Qing Dynasty for 19 years, and then died in Hangzhou. There are still two sites on Hua'ao Island, where the legendary figure once stayed: a rectangular barracks site 200 meters from the top of Pheasant Hill, covering an area of more than 7000 square meters; and a 1300 square meter square not far away from the ridge, which seems to be a training ground. Another barracks site is located at the height between the pheasant mountain and the north mountain.

Leadership inspection

In January 2009, Liu Jiaqi, academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and a famous Chinese geologist, inspected the Huaao stone forest. He believed that the Huaao stone forest was a columnar joint formed by Mesozoic acid magma, and the formation year was about the early Cretaceous. Academician Liu Jiaqi believes that Huaao Shilin is a columnar joint formed by Mesozoic acid magma.

Previous researchers believed that Huaao Shilin was a central volcanic magma passage in the late Jurassic. After the volcano stopped erupting, the magma produced a kind of vertical fission under the condition of uniform cooling and slow contraction. Liu Jiaqi believes that this statement is wrong. Liu Jiaqi also refuted the claim that there were three similar Hua'ao stone forests in the world in 2009. He believed that giant dyke in Northern Ireland and Tai Lugou Township, Zhangbei County, Zhangjiakou City, Hebei Province, China were not the same type of geological bodies and could not be compared. For the fossils of Cambrian Pteridophytic algae discovered and judged by researchers in Huaao stone forest 450-750 million years ago, Liu Jiaqi thinks that the "fossils" should be watermarks or pseudofossils.
