Yansai lake, located at the foot of Yanshan Mountain and in Shanhaiguan, a famous tourist city, has a beautiful and elegant ecological environment. Yansai Lake scenic area is located 3.5km northwest of Shanhaiguan District, Qinhuangdao city. Yansai lake, formerly known as Shihe reservoir, was dammed and impounded in 1974.

Development history

Shihe was originally a harmful river. After the founding of the people's Republic of China, it took only three years to build a dam on the mountain and store water for the lake, which not only provided water for the industry, agriculture and residents of Qinhuangdao, but also added beautiful scenery to the northern country. The 15 kilometer Lake area is like a picturesque landscape. Some people compare Shihe reservoir to the small Three Gorges, or to the landscape of Guilin, but it deserves it.

Yansai lake, also known as Shihe reservoir, is a natural moat of Shanhaiguan, a military fortress where ethnic military conflicts mostly occurred in Sui, Tang, Liao and Jin Dynasties.
