Fengtan Hydropower Plant

Fengtan Hydropower Plant in Hunan Province is one of the large hydropower plants in China. It is located in Yuanling County, downstream of Youshui River, a tributary of Yuanshui river. It is adjacent to Guzhang County in the northwest and Yongshun County in the northeast. The power plant was designed by Changsha survey and Design Institute of the former Ministry of water resources and electric power, and the main project construction was organized by Hunan Fengtan power station project headquarters. The project started on October 1, 1970, the first unit was put into operation on May 1, 1978, and all four units were completed and put into operation in November 1979. The designed total installed capacity is 400000 kW, and the annual power generation is 2.043 billion kwh. The total storage capacity is 17.4 cubic meters, belonging to seasonal regulation reservoir. In addition to power generation, the power plant also has comprehensive benefits such as flood control, shipping, tourism and aquatic products breeding.
