Nanla River

Nanla River, belonging to Lancang River system, is the last tributary of Lancang River before it leaves the country. The river is winding and has many tributaries. The main tributaries are Nansha River and Nanhang river. Because of the hot and humid climate, abundant rainfall, dense and verdant forest, covering the whole Nanla River Basin, so that some of its tributaries have not been found.

It originates between xiangguntanghoushan and daqingshuliangzi of Mengban town in Mengla County. The drainage basin is located in the East, South Central and west of Mengla County. It is the largest river in Mengla County. It is a first-class tributary of Lancang River water system and flows through six administrative towns including Mengban, Yao District, Mengla, Shangyong, Mengpeng and guanlei. It flows into Lancang River from northeast to South at the junction of China, Laos and Myanmar. It is 186 km in length, 30 m in width, 45.63 million square kilometers in runoff area, 1065 m in natural fall, 4.03% in average gradient, and 2.227 billion cubic meters in average water volume for many years. It is the main irrigation River in Mengla County with abundant water resources. The results of water resources estimation in Xishuangbanna state indicate that there are tributaries of Nanla River, the total amount of passenger water imported from Mengla district is 236 million cubic meters, the total amount of water exported from Mengla district to Lancang River at the border of Nanla estuary is 2.23 billion cubic meters.

Nanla river basin is located to the east of Lancang River fault, and its terrain changes greatly. The highest elevation of leigongyan in the north is 2008m, to mengpengbazi in the middle reaches of Nanla river is 560m, to the source of the East River is 1217m, to the intersection of Nanla River and Lancang River in the West is only 477m, and the extreme elevation difference is 1531m.
