Fangcaoyuan

Fangcaoyuan, located in the west section of Xinmen street, Licheng District, Quanzhou, was built in the reign of Emperor Kangxi of the Qing Dynasty and has a history of more than 300 years. It is one of the Spring Gardens (also known as "fangcaoyuan") created by general Shi Lang, Marquis of Jinghai, in Quanzhou. "Fangcao" is based on the idea of four seasons' poem "spring outing to Fangcao", which was later abandoned.

According to records, fangcaoyuan is dominated by a large number of lawns, and its layout technique is not inferior to that of Sanzhou fangcaoyuan.

In 1955, the former Quanzhou Municipal People's government and the Quanzhou Municipal Committee of the Communist Youth League mobilized the city's youth to take part in voluntary labor, and created the only comprehensive park in Quanzhou after liberation, Quanzhou Youth Park. At that time, the park covered an area of 114 mu, which was destroyed during the cultural revolution. At that time, the scope of Quanzhou Youth Park was Xinhua Road in the East, xiqian in the south, leather factory in the West and Xinmen street in the north. At that time, five ponds were opened, some boats were set up for people to row boats, five bridges were built, six pavilions were built, trees were planted, flower beds were built, and a children's playground was built Quanzhou Municipal Committee of the Communist Youth League once wrote to Hu Yaobang, Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Youth League at that time, to inscribe the gate of "Quanzhou Youth Park". Quanzhou Youth Park was destroyed during the cultural revolution.

In 1955, comrade Su Kaiping, then Secretary of Quanzhou Municipal Party committee of the Communist Youth League, organized and mobilized the youth of the whole city to participate in voluntary labor, and created Quanzhou Youth Park. The completion of the park provides a good place for people in the old urban area to take part in physical exercise, leisure and entertainment. The old Quanzhou citizens have a deep impression of the youth paradise period of fangcaoyuan. The establishment of Quanzhou youth paradise plays a key role in preserving the integrity of Quanzhou fangcaoyuan. Unfortunately, it was destroyed during the cultural revolution.

In 1997, fangcaoyuan was rebuilt. The total planning area of the park is 90 mu, mainly plant landscaping. At present, there are Chongzheng academy, "Sanzhou Fangcao" memorial archway, Hanbi Pavilion and other scenic spots in the park. Walking in the park, the trees are lush, banyan, longan, Magnolia, palm and many other trees are graceful and crisscross, leaving you a wide space for sightseeing, play and rest. The garden also makes use of the original terrain to build slopes by piling up soil, form banyan piles by planting alone, and generally plant fragrant trees such as Cinnamomum camphora and Osmanthus fragrans, supplemented by a large number of lawns and all kinds of flowering shrubs. You can forget to go back with colorful plant forms and the changing colors and styles of the four seasons. Green in the eyes and magical in the garden, the countryside atmosphere of "urban mountain forest" makes you feel comfortable as if you are "returning to nature".

Fangcaoyuan was built in 2004. The main contents include: rebuilding the existing swimming pool to build the "lotus fragrance" scenic spot; demolishing the buildings on the west side of Xinhua Road, building the East Gate (main gate), entrance square and the "fragrant spring grass" scenic spot with a large area of lawn. At the same time, improve the park road network, night lighting, street lamps, power distribution room and other supporting facilities. The completion of the park provides a good place for physical exercise, leisure and entertainment for people in the old city.
