Guangzhou Academy of fine arts is a higher academy of fine arts with a complete set of fine arts and design departments affiliated to Guangdong Province. It was founded in the autumn of 1953. Its predecessor was Zhongnan Academy of fine arts. It was formed by the adjustment and merger of the fine arts majors of South China Academy of Arts, Zhongnan Academy of Arts and Guangxi Academy of Arts. Its original site was located in Wuchang, Hubei Province. It moved to Guangzhou in 1958. In August of the same year, it was renamed Guangzhou Academy of fine arts and opened We are now recruiting undergraduates. In 1969, it merged with Guangzhou Conservatory of music and Guangdong dance school to form Guangdong People's art college. In February 1978, the original establishment of Guangzhou Academy of fine arts was restored and graduate students were recruited nationwide. In 1982, it has the right to confer master's degree, and is one of the first batch of units to obtain the right to confer master's degree in China. In 1986, students of continuing education were recruited. In 1987, it began to recruit students from foreign countries, Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan.
Guangzhou Academy of fine arts has always taken the cultivation of high-quality applied art talents and design talents with all-round development of morality, intelligence and sports as its fundamental task. At present, the college has established a system of fine arts and design. Undergraduate education has 9 majors, including painting, sculpture, art design, animation, photography, fashion design and engineering, industrial design, fine arts, art design, etc., and 24 professional directions. Graduate education has three master's programs of fine arts, design art and art, and more than 50 research directions. Our academy's fine arts and design arts are provincial key disciplines; painting and art design are famous brand majors in Guangdong Province; watercolor, Chinese classical painting copying, Chinese art history, foreign art history and composition are provincial key courses; watercolor is provincial excellent course.
The college consists of the College of plastic arts, the College of design, the College of continuing education and the Department of fine arts education. The College of plastic arts has five departments, including the Department of traditional Chinese painting, the Department of oil painting, the Department of printmaking, the Department of sculpture, and the Department of art history; the College of design has five departments, including the Department of architecture and environmental art design, the Department of decoration art design, the Department of digital art design, the Department of fashion design, the Department of decorative art design, the Department of industrial design, the Department of design art, the teaching and Research Office of dyeing and weaving art design, the teaching and Research Office of furniture art design, and the Department of ceramic art Design teaching and research office and other 10 departments (offices). The college also has 8 art research offices, including Lingnan Painting School Research Office, design research office, art education research office, art research office, Guan Shanyue Research Office, Li Xiongcai Research Office, Hu Yichuan Research Office, calligraphy and seal cutting research office, editorial department of art journal, and Guangdong Jimei design engineering company, which combines production, learning and research.
There are 416 full-time teachers, including 76 professors, 123 associate professors and 126 lecturers. The college enrolls postgraduates, ordinary undergraduates, continuing education students, advanced students, ordinary students and trainees of non academic education. At present, the college has 7200 students, including 357 master's students, 4608 undergraduate students and 2235 continuing education students.
The college has formed a pattern of "one school, two districts". The campus of university city is the main campus, covering an area of 414 mu, with a construction area of 258000 square meters, and 21 laboratories of various types. It is the base of undergraduate education. Sufficient laboratories and advanced supporting facilities not only meet the needs of experimental teaching, but also provide a strong guarantee for scientific research. Changgang campus covers an area of 150 mu, with a building area of 72900 square meters. It is a base for postgraduate training and continuing education.
