Qinzhou University is a full-time general university with engineering, science and management as the main subjects and coordinated development of multi disciplines. It is located in Binhai New Area of Qinzhou, the core port city of Beibu Gulf Economic Zone. The campus covers an area of 2076 mu, with a total construction area of 520000 square meters (excluding 110000 square meters under construction). It is a 3A grade scenic campus with Lingnan style, coastal scenery and Southeast Asian customs, providing a good teaching, scientific research, learning and living environment for teachers and students.

The predecessor of the school is Qinzhou normal school founded in 1973. In 1977, the school set up a junior college class. In 1982, it was renamed Qinzhou teachers' training college. In 1991, it was rebuilt as Qinzhou teachers' college. In 2004, Qinzhou normal school for nationalities, which was founded in 1906, was incorporated into Qinzhou teachers college. In 2006, the University was upgraded to Qinzhou University. In May 2011, the people's Government of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region approved the construction of Beibu Gulf University on the basis of Qinzhou University. In December 2011, the construction of Binhai campus of Beibu Gulf University was started. In January 2016, the school moved from QinZhou West Ring South Road and Yucai Road to Qinzhou Binhai New Town Binhai campus. In January 2018, the Ministry of education set up an expert group to visit Beibu Gulf University.

Currently, the university has 49 undergraduate majors, including 13670 full-time students (including 13103 undergraduates and 567 junior college students), 150 doctoral and master's degree students and 376 international students.
