Xianda College of economics and Humanities of Shanghai Foreign Studies University is the first batch of full-time undergraduate independent colleges in Shanghai approved by the Ministry of education in 2004. It is jointly organized by Shanghai Foreign Studies University and Shanghai Xianda Investment Co., Ltd. The school has two campuses, Hongkou and Chongming. Hongkou campus is located in the northeast of the city, adjacent to Shanghai Foreign Studies University; Chongming campus is located in Chenjia Town, Chongming District, Tuscan and neoclassical style of beautiful architecture and unique ecological environment complement each other.

Relying on the strong teaching staff of Shanghai International Studies University and the advantages of foreign language teaching and research, the university has built a talent training system focusing on language and economic disciplines and coordinated development of other disciplines (major + English). At present, there are 23 undergraduate majors in six categories: literature, law, economics, management, education and art. At present, there are more than 6800 full-time undergraduate students.

The school adheres to serving the development of students as its own responsibility, and is characterized by imparting knowledge of the integration of Humanities and economy. In recent years, it has actively carried out education and teaching reform. We should respect students' interests and hobbies, implement the system of changing majors in an all-round way, and provide students with the opportunity to choose their majors again. We should respect students' learning desire, participate in the cooperation of colleges and universities in Northeast China (Fudan University, Shanghai University of Finance and economics, etc.) to create conditions for students' minor and elective courses.

The University adheres to the road of open education and international education, and actively introduces the advanced educational concepts and management modes of excellent universities at home and abroad. It has established stable friendly cooperative relations with more than 40 well-known universities in 13 countries and regions, including the United States, Britain, France, Germany, the west, Switzerland, Australia, Japan, South Korea, Egypt, Singapore, Hong Kong and Taiwan. Through credit mutual recognition, paid internship, public exchange program, government scholarship program, double bachelor's degree program and undergraduate / postgraduate program, the university provides students with a variety of opportunities to go abroad to study multi culture and exercise, broaden international vision and improve cross-cultural communication ability. For six years in a row, about 15% of the students go to the University of California, Berkeley, University of London, Northwestern University, New York University, Cambridge University and other well-known foreign universities to study for postgraduates every year.

At present, with its brand-new school running mode, flexible school running mechanism, rich school running resources and inherent development potential, the university is based on Shanghai and facing the whole country, actively creating a characteristic and high-level applied technology university.
