Hubei Institute of automotive industry is located in Shiyan City, Hubei Province, a beautiful automobile city. It is located on the Bank of the Han River and at the north foot of Wudang Mountain, a tourist resort. Meng Shaonong, former member of the academic department of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, is the first president of the Institute.

After nearly 40 years of development, the university has become a full-time regular undergraduate college with engineering as the main body and coordinated development of engineering, management, economics, arts, science, law and other disciplines. At present, there are 823 teaching staff and more than 10000 students. The school has 26 undergraduate majors and 21 higher vocational (junior college) majors; it has two provincial key disciplines of vehicle engineering, mechanical manufacturing and automation; three majors of vehicle engineering, mechanical design and manufacturing and automation, material forming and control engineering have been approved as "characteristic specialty construction point" by the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of finance; it has mechanical design and manufacturing and automation, material forming and control engineering There are two professional points of national management. It has national experimental and practical teaching demonstration center for automobile industry, 5 provincial experimental and teaching demonstration centers for automobile engineering, electrical and electronic engineering, machinery, computer, material science and engineering, and 67 "industry university research" cooperation bases.

In 2007, the Ministry of education in the National Undergraduate Teaching Evaluation of colleges and universities was rated as excellent school. In 2009, the Academic Degrees Committee of the State Council approved our university to become a construction unit with the right to confer master's degree.

The school attaches great importance to the cultivation of students' practical and innovative ability. In the past five years, our students have won 547 awards at or above the provincial and ministerial level in various scientific and technological innovation and competitions such as mechanical innovation design, electronic design, mathematical modeling, automobile styling design, etc. The school Youth League Committee has been rated as "excellent organization unit of social practice in Hubei Province" for three consecutive years. Reflecting the characteristics of the times, full of automobile characteristics, positive campus culture and beautiful campus environment provide an ideal place for students to study.

It has established long-term inter school cooperation relations with Ulm University of Applied Science and technology, Stuttgart dual system University, Japan junior high school, Japan automatic vehicle University and other foreign universities, exchanged visiting scholars, and established a mechanism for double degree awarding and selection of International students.
