Hunan University of Arts and Sciences is a provincial full-time undergraduate college. In March 1999, the Ministry of Education approved the merger of Changde normal college and Changde college to form Changde normal college, which was renamed Hunan University of Arts and Science in February 2003. Biological science major and Chinese language and literature major are listed as key majors in Hunan Province. Biological basic course laboratory is listed as the construction object of basic course demonstration laboratory in ordinary colleges and universities in Hunan Province. "Literature and art appreciation" has passed the national excellent course evaluation. In 2004, the college was designated as a pilot college of College English teaching reform by the Ministry of education. In 2005, the college was recognized as the national Linux technology training and promotion center by the Ministry of education and the Ministry of science and technology. In July 2004, in the evaluation report on scientific and technological innovation competitiveness of Chinese universities jointly developed by China Science Evaluation Research Center and China Youth Daily, our college ranked 243rd among 619 universities in China; in the evaluation report on research competitiveness of Humanities and Social Sciences in Chinese universities, our college ranked 237th among 570 universities in China. Since 1958, the school has trained more than 40000 senior professionals for local economic construction and social development, most of whom have become the backbone of various industries in Hunan Province, especially in Changde City. According to statistics, there are 189 senior middle school teachers in Changde, accounting for 37%; 62 special grade teachers, accounting for 55%; 14 national excellent teachers, accounting for 56%; 265 current middle school principals, accounting for 82%; 789 key teachers of basic education above the municipal level, accounting for 70%; party and government cadres at the department level 327 students graduated from our college, accounting for 21.8%. After the first three years of College upgrading, the employment situation of the first three undergraduate graduates is good, of which the employment rate of the 03 and 04 graduates at the end of the year respectively reaches 94.73% and 95.72%, and the initial employment rate of the 05 graduates reaches 89.45%. A total of 312 graduates of the three terms were admitted to graduate school. In 2003, the college was awarded "civilized university of Hunan Province" by Hunan Provincial Department of education and Hunan Provincial College Working Committee; in 2004, the college was awarded "civilized unit of Hunan Province" by Hunan provincial Party committee and Hunan Provincial People's government, and was rated as "advanced unit of social practice" by the Propaganda Department of the CPC Central Committee, the Ministry of education and the Communist Youth League Central Committee. In 2002, the Youth League Committee of the college was awarded the title of "May 4th Red Flag Youth League Committee" by the Central Committee of the Youth League.
