Inner Mongolia University of Finance and economics is located in the capital city of Hohhot. It was founded in 1960. It is the first finance and economics university set up in ethnic minority areas. After 57 years of construction and development, it has become a University of Finance and economics with distinctive regional and national characteristics, which mainly undertakes undergraduate education and postgraduate training, mainly focuses on economics and management, and integrates science, law, engineering and literature.

The university has more than 21700 students in general higher education. There are four first-class disciplines of theoretical economics, applied economics, business administration and statistics, 23 second-class discipline master's degree authorization points, and three professional master's degree authorization points of MBA, MPAcc and MF. There are 54 undergraduate majors, of which 27 have Mongolian Chinese bilingual teaching classes; There are 5 key disciplines at the autonomous region level, 2 key cultivation disciplines at the autonomous region level, 19 brand specialties at the autonomous region level, 2 key construction specialties at the autonomous region level, 49 excellent courses at the autonomous region level; 18 colleges, 1 teaching department directly under the Ministry of education and 5 teaching auxiliary institutions; 1 national experimental teaching demonstration center, 3 national characteristic specialties, and 1 comprehensive reform pilot project of the Ministry of education.

The specialty connotation has been enriched, the quality awareness has been strengthened, the construction level has been improved, and the specialty system with distinctive characteristics, high level, and obvious advantages has been constructed. In the aspect of national education, it has formed the talent training characteristics with hierarchical teaching and "enrollment training employment" linkage mechanism as the main content. The Mongolian Chinese bilingual teaching education system has gradually formed, and the national characteristics of talent training are more distinct. At present, the university enrolls students from 25 provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities directly under the central government, enjoying a high reputation and influence.
