The school of automation of Beijing Union University was founded in 2002, and its predecessor is the combination of three colleges.
The first is the second branch of Tsinghua University, later renamed as College of automation engineering, located in Shazikou, Fengtai District. Later, it merged with Tsinghua University and moved to huanghuamen campus. Then it moved to the headquarters of Beijing Union University in Xiaoying, North Fourth Ring Road and merged into the school of information of Beijing Union University.
The second is the branch of Beijing Institute of Aeronautics, later renamed as the Institute of light industry and building materials. The school is located in pen'er Hutong, Xuanwu District, and later moved to Xiaoying, North Fourth Ring Road. The headquarters of Beijing Union University is merged into the school of information technology of Beijing Union University.
The third is a branch of Beijing University of technology, later renamed School of mechanical engineering of Beijing Union University, located in Sanlitun, Chaoyang District.
In 2002, the Department of automation, School of information, Peking Union University and the Department of electrical engineering, School of mechanical engineering, Peking Union University were adjusted and merged to form the school of automation, Peking Union University.

In 2010, Liu Da, an audio-visual technology major, won the first prize in the 128th International Association of audio engineers (AES) student recording competition. In the past five years, college students have won the first and second prizes and winning prizes in the national "Challenge Cup" competition, CCTV National Undergraduate robot TV competition, National Electronic Design Competition and National Smart car competition. Since this year, the college has specially organized teachers and students to participate in the 2012 (third) China Internet of things conference, organized teachers to participate in the first Beijing fair and the 2012 industry university research work conference of China Federation of logistics and procurement, encouraged teachers and students to understand the industry needs through exchange activities, and fully listened to the guidance of relevant experts on school enterprise cooperation and professional construction.
