Hunan Vocational College of software is a full-time college approved by the people's Government of Hunan Province and registered by the Ministry of education.

Founded in 2001, the college has two campuses in Changsha and Xiangtan. Changsha campus covers an area of 398 mu, with a construction area of more than 70000 square meters. It is located in the newly opened road in Tianxin District, adjacent to the new site of the provincial government. Xiangtan campus covers an area of 1000 mu and is located in Jiuhua Economic Development Zone, the core area of "Chang Zhu Tan" integration. The new campus has a beautiful environment. With a total construction area of 400000 square meters, the first phase project of 100000 square meters was completed in August 2008, and nearly 4000 students moved into the new campus to study and live. The second phase of the project has been started and is planned to be completed within three years. With a total investment of nearly 1 billion yuan, modern teaching buildings, training buildings, libraries, teachers' apartments, expert villas, student apartments, gymnasiums and other modern office, teaching, living and sports facilities are all available. It is a paradise for students to grow up healthily.

The college has more than 7000 full-time students. There are 320 teaching staff, including 213 full-time teachers, 56 professors and associate professors, 107 lecturers, 110 with doctor's and master's degrees, and 102 "double qualification" teachers. The college makes full use of the location advantage of "Chang Zhu Tan" talent distribution center, and employs a large number of teachers who have both university degree and enterprise work experience to guide students' practical experience.

The college has a total of nine departments, namely: Software Engineering Department, computer department, network engineering department, information engineering department, animation media department, art design department, architectural engineering department, numerical control measurement engineering department, economic and trade management department and basic courses department. There are 31 specialized specialties, all of which are aimed at the key development industries and emerging industries which are urgently needed by the country and have good employment prospects.

The college adheres to the fundamental purpose of serving the grassroots, and takes the cultivation of "reliable, practical and capable" skilled talents as the fundamental goal, and vigorously promotes the reform of teaching mode. According to the characteristics of students in vocational colleges, we should pay attention to the training of practicality and students' practical ability in teaching content, and resolutely abolish those outdated and useless things; in teaching methods, we should resolutely abolish the traditional, full and injection teaching methods, introduce new teaching modes, and generally adopt project-based and case-based teaching.

The college implements a multi-level school running mode and runs jointly with Wuhan University, central China Normal University, Hunan Normal University, Hunan Agricultural University, Hunan Institute of engineering and Hunan Radio and Television University. It can carry out short-term self-study examination, distance education, correspondence education and adult education from college to university.

At present, the college is mainly run by Three-year Higher Vocational Education, with five-year higher vocational education, a small number of secondary vocational education, adult education, undergraduate education, self-taught examination and various short-term training. There are correspondence teaching station of Hunan Institute of engineering, Xiangtan branch of Network Education College of Wuhan University, central China Normal University and Hunan Radio and Television University, and self-study examination includes short-term self-study examination from college to university.
