Shanghai University of traditional Chinese Medicine

Founded in 1956, Shanghai University of traditional Chinese medicine is one of the first four Chinese medicine universities established in China after the birth of new China. It is also the only key characteristic Medical University in Shanghai. In 1985, Shanghai Institute of traditional Chinese medicine was established. At present, Shanghai University of traditional Chinese medicine and Shanghai University of traditional Chinese medicine have two brands and one set of management organization. The school level leaders are also the leaders of the Institute. The school is located in the scientific research and education area of Zhangjiang High Tech Park in Pudong New Area, covering an area of more than 500 mu, with complete teaching facilities and beautiful environment. It has become an important part of "Zhangjiang Medicine Valley" in the strategic layout of building Shanghai into an "innovative city".

Since its founding 60 years ago, the university has trained and transported all kinds of Chinese medicine professionals at all levels for the country, and alumni have spread over more than 60 countries and regions. The school has more than 600 experts and professors, 3 academicians of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the Chinese Academy of Sciences, 76 instructors of the academic experience inheritance class of national old experts in traditional Chinese medicine, and 60 famous traditional Chinese medicine practitioners in Shanghai. In 1999, our school passed the evaluation of "excellent undergraduate teaching school" by the Ministry of education, and was rated as "excellent" again in 2007. Its comprehensive strength ranks in the forefront of Chinese medicine colleges and universities in China.

The university has 18 directly affiliated colleges, 3 directly affiliated hospitals, 4 non directly affiliated hospitals, 22 affiliated and co built research institutes and 15 research centers, and has established a medical teaching research consortium composed of 19 traditional Chinese medicine institutions in Shanghai. There are three bases of the Ministry of Education: Wushu training base for Chinese college students, National College Students' cultural quality education base, national science basic research and teaching talent training base. The research and communication center of traditional Chinese medicine culture is the key research base of social and humanistic sciences in Shanghai colleges and universities.

There are 7395 full-time students, including 551 doctoral students, 1567 master students, 3936 undergraduate students, 255 junior college students and 1136 international students, and 218 full-time students from China, Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan. In addition, there are 3846 adult education students. Every year, there are more than 1200 short-term students from more than 30 countries and regions such as Japan, South Korea, Russia, France, Britain, the United States, Germany and Italy.

The university is the Ministry of education "talent training mode innovation experimental area" and "characteristic professional point" construction university. There are three first-class disciplines of TCM, integrated traditional Chinese and Western medicine, and traditional Chinese medicine, 24 second-class disciplines of PhD, 35 second-class disciplines of master's degree, and three post doctoral mobile stations. The doctoral degree awarding specialty covers all disciplines of TCM. In the evaluation of the national post doctoral mobile station in 2010, the discipline of traditional Chinese medicine was rated as the only "excellent" mobile station of the first level discipline of traditional Chinese medicine in China; in recent years, one doctoral thesis was rated as "national excellent doctoral thesis", and four doctoral theses were nominated as "national excellent doctoral thesis". There are 14 undergraduate and specialized specialties (directions), including nursing, food hygiene and nutrition, rehabilitation therapy, pharmacy and so on. The school also has 12 continuing education majors. The university has established cooperative relations with 14 countries and regions in scientific research, teaching and medical treatment. The school has two Sino foreign cooperative education projects registered by the Ministry of education, namely Sino British cooperative pharmacy project and Sino British cooperative nursing project.

At present, there are 4 national key disciplines: surgery of traditional Chinese medicine, traditional Chinese medicine, internal medicine of traditional Chinese medicine and orthopedics of traditional Chinese medicine; 2 national key disciplines (cultivation): Philology of history of traditional Chinese medicine, acupuncture and massage; 38 key disciplines of State Administration of traditional Chinese medicine; 6 key disciplines of Shanghai (first-class disciplines of Shanghai Universities). There are 1 Engineering Research Center of the Ministry of education, 3 key laboratories of the Ministry of education, 3 key laboratories of Shanghai Municipality, and 8 key laboratories of the State Administration of traditional Chinese medicine. Among them, the number of national key disciplines ranks second in China's traditional Chinese medicine universities and first in Shanghai's local universities; in 2012, the first level discipline of traditional Chinese medicine ranked first in China, the first level discipline of traditional Chinese medicine ranked second in China, and the first level discipline of integrated traditional Chinese and Western medicine ranked third in China.

Shanghai University of traditional Chinese medicine adheres to the school running philosophy of "not focusing on its size, but on its advantages; not focusing on its integrity, but on its characteristics; not focusing on its name, but on its reality", and adheres to the school running orientation of "research and teaching type, characteristic type and export-oriented". It is a national first-class and world-famous university of traditional Chinese medicine with distinctive professional characteristics.
