City College of Dongguan Institute of technology is an independent college approved by the Ministry of education in June 2004.

Dongguan Institute of technology, the sponsor of the college, is the first regular undergraduate college in Dongguan, Guangdong Province. It is a University jointly built by provinces and cities. It is one of the first batch of universities (61 in China and 3 in Guangdong) to implement the "excellent engineer training plan" of the Ministry of education. In August 2010, it was approved as a new master's degree awarding unit in Guangdong Province. Dongguan Institute of technology is responsible for the teaching organization and management of the city college. It entrusts management cadres as the leadership of the college, selects excellent professional teachers to be responsible for teaching work, guides the construction of disciplines and majors, and creates professional brands. The profound cultural heritage and excellent teaching resources of the University create conditions for the high starting point operation and leap forward development of the city college.

Guangdong Hongfa Investment Group Co., Ltd., the investor of the college, is a modern large-scale private enterprise group based on capital and industry, with strong economic strength and good social reputation.

With the expansion of the scale of the college and the continuous improvement of school running conditions, the main body of the College moved to the new campus in 2012. The new campus construction relies on and retains the original natural features and environmental conditions, ingenious conception and exquisite design, so as to achieve the harmonious integration of human and nature, architecture and nature. It is planned that there will be 20000 students in the school. The campus is planned to cover an area of 1200 mu, with a total planned construction area of 660000 square meters, a completed construction area of 430000 square meters, and a total investment of over 1 billion yuan. Teaching building, student dormitory, gymnasium, swimming pool, academic lecture hall, track and field field field, administration building and dining hall are all available. With novel layout, unique architectural style and perfect facilities, it is a good place for reading and learning. The university has established a discipline and specialty system focusing on management and engineering, with coordinated development of management, engineering, economics, arts, law, arts, science and other disciplines. It has 12 teaching departments and 25 undergraduate majors. At present, there are 15000 ordinary full-time students. According to the teaching needs, centering on the transformation and upgrading of the Pearl River Delta region, the college has established 99 professional laboratories, 149 off campus teaching practice bases, more than 20 research centers, and established a "production, teaching and research" relationship with 20 scientific research institutes and enterprises. It has two provincial-level excellent courses and more than 200 college level excellent courses. Graduates who meet the requirements of bachelor's degree will be awarded the bachelor's degree certificate of City College of Dongguan University of technology.

The college has established a relatively stable staff, a more reasonable professional structure, to meet the teaching needs of its own teachers, full-time teachers with senior titles accounted for 31% of the total number of teachers, young and middle-aged teachers with a master's degree accounted for 68%, the proportion of qualified lecturers was 93%. The college also employs professors, experts and scholars from well-known universities and senior government officials as visiting professors and part-time professors, and employs foreign teachers for English teaching throughout the year.
