Kashgar University, formerly known as Kashgar Normal University, is a multi-ethnic, multi-disciplinary and multi-level University. Founded in 1962, the University obtained the master's degree authorization qualification in June 2003. In 2007, he was rated as excellent in the undergraduate evaluation of the Ministry of education. In April 2015, it successfully passed the expert evaluation of the national college setting evaluation committee, and changed its name to Kashgar University.

At present, there are school of mathematics and statistics, School of humanities, School of law and politics, School of physics and electrical engineering, School of civil engineering, School of chemistry and environmental science, School of life and geographical science, School of computer science and technology, School of physical education, School of art, School of educational science, School of Chinese language, School of foreign languages, teaching and Research Department of Ideological and political theory course, and continuing education College, network center, mental health education and counseling center and other teaching units. At present, there are 48 undergraduate majors, including 25 normal majors, 23 non normal majors and 17 specialized majors, covering nine disciplines including teaching, arts, history, economics, science, law, engineering, management and art. At present, there is one first-class master degree program in Chinese language and literature, 11 second-class master degree programs in Ideological and political education, and two professional master degree programs in education and Engineering (Bioengineering).

At present, there are 1038 teaching staff, including 743 full-time teachers. Among the full-time teachers, 294 have senior professional and technical positions, and 462 have master's degree or above, accounting for 62% of the total number of teachers. Among them, 94 have doctor's degree, and the school also employs 15 Tianshan scholars. At present, there are nearly 16000 ordinary college students, graduate students and adult students in the University. The total value of teaching instruments and equipment of the university is 101 million yuan. The library has a collection of more than 1.21 million books. The Chinese electronic resources include tongfangzhi journal full text database, tongfangzhi doctoral thesis database, tongfangzhi important conference database, tongfangzhi important newspaper database, tongfangzhi reference book database Tongfang HowNet reference book database, Tongfang HowNet Yearbook database, VIP examination resource system, Addison online lecture hall, Wanfang video database, and 300000 kinds of e-books. Foreign language e-resources mainly include Springer database and EBSCO database, which can meet the needs of teaching and scientific research of various majors.

Since its establishment for more than 50 years, the school has been serving the basic education of ethnic minorities and the local economic and social development, and has made important contributions to the education and economic and social development of Xinjiang.
