Chang'e-5 will be on display in Hong Kong

Lunar soil collected by chang'e-5 will be displayed in Hong Kong.

According to Hong Kong media "Hong Kong 01" reported earlier, the Chinese lunar probe "chang'e-5" successfully brought 2 kg of lunar soil back to earth in December last year. Hong Kong people will have the opportunity to see "the land beyond the sky" in person. Part of the lunar soil will come to Hong Kong with the national scientists' delegation on Monday (21) and will be exhibited at the Wanchai exhibition from Sunday (June 27) to early July. At that time, the public can also see the reduced version of the chang'e-5 model. A reporter from Shenzhen satellite TV asked the relevant department, which confirmed the news.

The public exhibition will be held from June 27 to July 9. Details and ticket collection arrangements will be announced within a few days, the report said. It is reported that the first stop of the national scientists' delegation in Hong Kong is the Hong Kong Polytechnic University. At present, the alumni registration form has been posted on the official website of the University. The scientific research team of the Hong Kong Polytechnic University is the only university in Hong Kong that has participated in the chang'e-5 mission. The team is responsible for the development of the "surface sampling actuator", so that the sampler can successfully complete the lunar surface sampling and packaging.

According to an earlier report of the "big document collection" all media, Hong Kong researchers have participated in the lunar exploration projects from "Chang'e-1" to "chang'e-5". In the "chang'e-5" lunar exploration project in 2020, Rong Qiliang, academician of the Hong Kong Academy of Engineering Sciences and Professor (Precision Engineering) of the Hong Kong Polytechnic University, developed the sampling actuator, which once again contributed "Hong Kong power" to the national major scientific research projects.

When asked about chang'e-5's successful return to earth with lunar soil, Rong said, "I feel relieved.". He introduced that many teams participated in the competition when the chang'e-5 project was established. In the end, the Hong Kong Polytechnic University and the China Academy of space technology joined hands to win the opportunity of project research and development. Among them, the University of science and technology was responsible for the "surface sampling and execution device", which was the key instrument responsible for sampling on the surface of the lunar sphere. Rong Qiliang and the team of PolyU have done a lot of experiments in nearly 10 years of research and development. He said that the sampling of the device can be described as "alarming step by step", and every link may make mistakes. Fortunately, the "national task" was successfully completed.

On the device that encapsulates the lunar soil, there is a small logo of PolyU. Rong said that this logo started from PolyU, started from Hong Kong, landed on the moon, and finally returned to the earth.

Professor Rong said that Hong Kong's scientific research and development needs close cooperation with the mainland. On the one hand, the mainland has R & D instruments that Hong Kong does not have. On the other hand, mainland researchers are very diligent. The two sides can complement each other in many aspects. He encouraged those interested in scientific research to look into the bay area, broaden their horizons, and go to a larger area to do research that is truly constructive to human beings.
