[plant morphology] Fritillaria umbellifera

Perennial epiphytic herbs, 20-30 cm high. Aerial roots are bearlike, light yellowish brown. The stem is transverse, segmented, bamboo flagellate, with globular pseudobulbs on the nodes, fleshy, ovate, ribbed, 15-30mm in diameter, green, smooth and glabrous. Each pseudobulb has two leaves at the top, leathery, thick and brittle, long elliptic to lanceolate, 8-15 cm long and 2-3 cm wide, entire, smooth and glabrous on both sides. Raceme terminal; pedicel several sheath bracts; flowers white, about 3 cm in diameter, symmetrical, yellow spots on the lip. Fruit oblong, ca. 2 cm long, trigonous. Seeds small, yellow, sawdust like. It blooms in spring.

It grows on damp rocks in mixed forest or epiphytic to tree trunks. Distributed in Yunnan, Guizhou and other places.
