Herbs perennial, 2-4 m high or higher. Rhizome stout, covered with scales. Culm erect, glabrous, with many nodes, nodes with long hairs. Leaves alternate; linear lanceolate, 60-150 cm long, 2-2.5 cm wide, glabrous except for the upper base densely pilose, margin spinulose rough; leaf sheath glabrous or hairy, lower part longer than internode, upper part shorter than internode; ligule 1-2 mm long, apex truncated, ciliate. Panicle terminal, large, 30-60 cm long, spindle glabrous, rachis internodes 3-6 mm long, with long cilia; sessile spikelet lanceolate, basal plate with short hairs; the first glume apex membranous and acuminate, back with long hairs; the second glume navicular, apex acuminate and margin with membranous and ciliate: the first lemma lanceolate, shorter than glume, the second lemma lanceolate, shorter than glume 1 / 4 , apex pointed; palea oblong, about half as long as lemma; stamens 3; style long and feathery. Caryopsis free. The flowering period is from October to May.

It is found on hillsides and riverbanks, near grasslands and villages. It is distributed in Jiangsu, Zhejiang, Anhui, Henan, Hunan, Hubei, Sichuan, Jiangxi, Guangdong and Yunnan.

[function indications] Tongqiao Lishui, broken blood Tongjing. It is used to treat traumatic injuries, wind pain of muscles and bones, amenorrhea, edema and swelling of cups.

Usage: Decoction and dosage: 2 ～ 5.

[selected formula] for the treatment of late menstruation: one or two roots of Festuca arundinacea, three coins of Rubia Rubia, two coins of Cymbidium sambucum, five coins of iron broom root, one or two roots of Elaeagnus angustifolia.
