Semiwoody stout perennial. The fibrous roots are well developed, the underground stems are white, nodal and soft. The stem is short. The leaves are thick, fleshy, sword shaped, 100-150 cm long and 8-13 cm wide, with reddish brown spines at the apex, 2-3 cm long and short spines at the margin. The height of flower stem is 5-10m.
