[plant morphology] crape myrtle (Youyang Zazu), also known as houlangda tree (Youyang Zazu) and itch resistant tree (Quji old news).

Deciduous shrubs or small trees, up to 7 meters high. The leaves are nearly sessile, elliptic, obovate or oblong, 2-7 cm long and 1-4 cm wide, apex pointed or obtuse, base broadly cuneate or rounded, smooth and glabrous, or hairy along the main vein. Panicle terminal, 4-20 cm long; calyx 7-10 mm long, calyx tube outside without groove, top usually 6-lobed, lobes ovate; petals 6, suborbicular, purple, edge wrinkled, base clawed; stamens 36-42, lateral 6, filaments longer, anthers larger, green, pollen purple; pistil 1, style slender, stigma capitate. Capsule globose, 9-13 mm long, 8-11 mm wide. The flowering period is from May to August.
