The algal body is a flat leaf body with disc-shaped fixator at the base. The thallus from the petiole is broadly lanceolate or elliptic, generally 15-20 cm in length and 10-16 cm in width, and some 50 cm in length and 30 cm in width. It is membranous, with wavy margin; it is light pink when young, then gradually turns to dark purple, and turns to light purple yellow when old. The growth period is from November to May.

It is found on the rocks of the middle tidal zone in the bay. It is distributed in the Yellow Sea and Bohai Sea to the north of Lianyungang, Jiangsu Province. There are also cultivators.
