Perennial erect herbs, 0.6-2 m high. The stem base is cylindrical, lignified, the upper branch is flat, banded, 7-12mm wide, dark green, glossy, with obvious fine lines, the nodes are slightly contracted, the stipules degenerate into linear, the branch base is narrow, and the apex is sharp. Leaves mostly on new branches, alternate, rhomboid ovate, 4-20 mm long, 2-10 mm wide, apex acuminate, base cuneate, entire or near base with a pair of serrate, pinnate reticulate veins, sessile. The flowers are small, bisexual, with slender stalks; bracts thrusting out, yellowish brown; perianth 4-5-lobed, lobes oblong, about 1 mm long, light green, later turning red; stamens 6-7, filaments flat, anthers white; pistil 1, ovary superior, style short, 3, Du head bifurcated. The fruit is triangular and enclosed in the perianth with red endoplasm. The flowering period is from September to October. The fruit period is from October to November.
