Perennial herbs. Root like. Stem 30-90 cm high, erect, nodes often white pilose. The leaf sheath is smooth, the base is broken, the inner surface is reddish brown; the leaf is linear, 12-40 cm long, 3-4 mm wide; the bract is 1.7-2.5 cm long. Pseudopanicle sparse, narrow, 18-35 cm long; raceme twin, purplish, 1-2 cm long, rachis internode 3-3.5 mm long; sessile spikelet oblong lanceolate, 5-6 mm long, basal plate hairy; palea absent; stamen 3; petiolate spikelet 4-6 mm long, stalk with white pilose. The flowering and fruiting period is from August to October.

Green hillside grassland. It is distributed in Anhui, Jiangxi, North China, central China, South China and southwest China.

Functions and indications: relieving asthma, relieving cough, anti inflammation, relieving pain, stopping diarrhea, stopping bleeding, expelling wind and dampness, detumescence, assisting digestion, and dredging channels and collaterals. [usage and dosage] oral administration: decoction, 1-2 Liang.

[prescription selection] ① for acute and chronic bronchitis: injection of heavy distilled liquid of Festuca arundinacea (4 g crude drug in 2 ml) twice a day, 2-4 ml each time.

② Treatment of elderly patients with chronic tracheitis: one to two pairs of wild citronella, one or two pinecones, one to two pairs of Houttuynia cordata. Take it by frying.

③ Treatment of heart and stomach qi pain: Wild citronella one to two. Take it in water.

④ Treatment of abdominal pain: Wild citronella oil one to two money. Take it with boiling water.

⑤ Treatment of diarrhea: Wild citronella one or two, fried rice one or two. Take it in water.

③ Treatment of wind swelling: half a catty of wild citronella. Wash in boiling water.
