[source] it is the tuberous root of Asparagus officinalis.

[plant morphology] asparagus, also known as asparagus, asparagus, asparagus, Stemona tenuifolia and sorbolo.

Perennial herb, 1-2 m high. The root is fleshy and stout. The stem is erect, smooth and spinless, branched, green and slightly pinkish; the tender stem is thick and thick, with closely attached scalelike leaves; the leafy branches are bundles, filiform, cylindrical, 5-15mm long. The leaves (i.e. scales) are very small. Flowers unisexual, petiolate, 1-4 clustered in axils of leafy branches, bell shaped; perianth 6 pieces, yellow green; stamens 6, inserted at the base of perianth; ovary 3-sided, 3-locular, style 3. Berry globose, fleshy, 5-8 mm in diameter, red. It blooms in autumn.

It is cultivated in the south of China.

[collection] from February to March, the underground tuberous roots which have been growing for 2 to 3 years were dug, the soil was cleaned and dried in the sun. Or soak in boiling water and take out to dry.

[medicinal materials] the dried root tubers are effective in several or ten clusters, and some are scattered individually. A long cylindrical, 10-25 cm long, about 4 mm in diameter, the appearance of yellow white, or yellowish. There are irregular grooves. The texture is flexible, the cross section is fleshy, light yellow white, the central column is oval, and the color is yellow.

It is produced in Guangxi.
