[animal morphology] Hyriopsis cumingii

Shell 2 pieces, the same shape, long oval, about 16 cm long, about 7 cm high, the front short round, rear extension; shell top large, located in the front of the shell. Shell very thick, dorsal margin up to 1 cm, leading edge about 5 mm. The surface of the shell is brown with dense annular growth lines, and the inner pearl layer of the shell is silvery white and glossy.

They live in rivers and lakes. It is distributed in Sichuan.

[collection] when the water is dry in winter, the sediment is collected on the beach and sand bar, cleaned and dried.

[medicinal materials] the shells are semi oval or boat shaped, and most of them are withered and loose due to the impact of river water and the cover of muddy water for a long time. The shell is heavy and thick with thin ventral margin and thick top. The appearance is brown or grayish brown, the cuticle has been peeled off, showing a powdery gray shape, and the peeling place shows a silver white inner layer. The cuticle is smooth in texture and has fine ring lines. The inner surface is silvery white and glossy with white cream. It is delicate and easy to stick to hands. The material is hard, and the cross-section is layered after crushing. It smells like lime. It is better to have white color, thick shell, heavy weight, powdery gray and glossy surface.
