Perennial herbs. The root is thick and spindle. The leaves are numerous, tufted from the rhizome, slender and pointed, green in the middle and white on both sides of the edge. The flowers are small, greenish white, on the nodes of creeping branches, arranged in racemes; perianth is round, with 6 lobes; stamens are 6; ovary sessile, 3-locular, style linear. Capsule triangular, seed flat. It blooms in spring.
