Perennial herbs, 20-30 m high. Rhizome with long nodule underground. The whole herb contains rutin, Hyperoside, trifolioside, mucoside (i.e. soporioside), soporioside B, dihydrosoporioside B, soporioside A and kailian mucoside.

The aerial part contains α - spinasterol, stigmasterol-7-ol and other sterols. The main components are α - pinene, 1,8-cineole, solanese, gurrene, neronene, isovalerate, etc.
