Evergreen shrubs to small trees, usually about 2 m high, up to 5 m high. The branches are weak, with lenticels. Leaves opposite, papery, oblanceolate or oblong elliptic, 4-12 cm long, 1.5-3 cm wide, base broadly cuneate, apex long pointed and obtuse; petiole very short; stipules 2-lobed, 5-7 mm long, caducous. Capsule cuneate, ca. 3 mm long; seeds numerous, oblong, narrowly winged at both ends. The flowering period is from July to August. The fruit period is from August to September (Guangdong).

They like to live by rivers, streams and dense forests. Distributed in Fujian, Jiangxi, Hunan, Zhejiang, Guangxi, Guangdong and other places.
