Herbs annual or biennial, glabrous or glandular on petiole and bracts. The stem is erect, 25-90cm high, fleshy, hollow, sometimes slightly inclined at the base. Leaves opposite; oblong lanceolate or oblong ovoid, 4-7 cm long, 8-15 mm wide, apex obtuse or sharp, entire or undulate toothed, base auricular; sessile. Raceme axillary, 5-15 cm long; bracts elliptic, small, alternate; flowers petiolate; calyx 4-lobed, lobes narrowly elliptic, apex obtuse; corolla lavender or white, with lavender lines; stamen 2, prominent; pistil 1, ovary superior, style 1, stigma capitate. The capsule is nearly round, the apex is slightly concave, the length is slightly larger than the width, and the fruit is often expanded into a round ball after parasitization. The fruit contains many small seeds, oblong, flat; glabrous. The flowering period is from April to June.
