Deciduous shrub, 1-2m high. The branches are angular, grayish green, often with white frost, spiny, 8-20 mm long. Leaves alternate or clustered, thick papery to leathery; narrowly ovate to lanceolate, 3-6.5 cm long, 1-2.2 cm wide, base obtuse or cuneate, apex acuminate or short, margin serrulate, or almost entire, glabrous on both sides; petiole 5-10 mm long; stipules small, persistent or glabrescent. Raceme axillary or at the top of lateral branches, with 3-8 white flowers; sepals 5, suborbicular; petals 5, oblong ovate or oblate; stamens mostly multiseriate; pistil 1, ovary superior. Drupe elliptic, dark purplish red at maturity, powdery, base with Postanthesis expanded sepals. The flowering period is from March to April. The fruit period is from June to July.

It grows in the shrubbery on both sides of hillside or valley, depression and roadside. It is distributed in Yunnan, Guizhou, Sichuan and Taiwan.
