Forest Senecio scandens

Perennial erect herbs, about 50-100 cm high. Leaf blade broadly lanceolate to ovate, long elliptic, margin serrate, base cuneate, glabrous on both sides; petiole short. The head is arranged in corymbose shape, small, mostly, 1.7-2.6 mm in diameter, short peduncle; the involucre is in one row, bracts are leathery, 6-7 mm in length, linear; the edge has one row of glossy flowers, 5-9, glossy long, yellow, 13-19 mm in length, with tubular flowers in the center. Achene, 3.5-4 mm long, glabrous, corolla 6-6.5 mm long, white. The seeds are light brown.

Born in caodianzi, forest edge, forest wetland. It is distributed in the north and east of China.

The samples were collected from August to August.

[chemical constituents] the whole plant contains alkaloids such as Senecio macrophylla and Senecio flaccidum. It also contains artichodin and chlorogenic acid.

Bitter, pungent and cold.

[function indications] clearing away heat and toxin. It can treat dysentery, eye swelling, carbuncle, furuncle and toxin.

[usage and dosage] oral: decoction, 2-4 yuan. External use: tamping.

[selected formula] ① for enteritis and carbuncle: Huangyuan with curcuma (or Edelweiss), decoction.

② Treatment of hepatitis, conjunctivitis: Yellow aster with Gentianaceae or Swertia, decoction.
