Sea weed

(Modern Practical Chinese Medicine)

[source] it is the algal body of seaweed.

[plant morphology] sea weed

The algae are tufted, 5-25 cm high, dark purple red, cartilaginous and irregularly branched. The fixator is discoid. Branches cylindric, tip like foxtail, all densely covered with hairy branchlets, but base mostly abscission. There are 8-10 periaxial cells in the branchlets. The tetrasporangium is located at the top of the branchlets, most of which are spirally arranged. Utricles ovoid, sessile, lateral to upper or central part of branchlets.

It grows on coral fragments 2-7 meters below the dry tide line. Taiwan and Orchid Island, the Dongsha Islands.

[collection] harvest from March to August.

[medicinal material] the dried alga is slightly columnar, with several forked branches, 3-7mm thick and grayish green. Branchlets brownish, densely hairy, foxtail shaped; basal branchlets often glabrescent. It's tough. It has special Qi, salty and sticky taste.

[chemical composition] it contains kainic acid and a small amount of allokainic acid, agar and other polysaccharides, glycosides, volatile oil, amino acids, peptides and organic acids composed of glyceric acid and mannose. 2%, betaine, etc.

[pharmacological action] kainic acid is an effective component to drive Ascaris lumbricoides, but when used alone, the negative conversion rate of Ascaris lumbricoides eggs is not high. It can be combined with shandaonian (adult dose: 50-100 mg, kainic acid 5-7.5 mg) to improve the curative effect. The anti Ascaris effect of kainic acid is due to the inhibition of dehydrogenase in Ascaris lumbricoides muscle or the reduction of iron containing respiratory enzyme in Ascaris lumbricoides digestive tract epithelial cells. According to the experiments of earthworm and Ascaris lumbricoides, some people speculate that the mechanism of removing Ascaris lumbricoides by kainic acid is to make Ascaris lumbricoides morbid motion excited (or consume its energy, or paralyze its movement), and disturb its glucose metabolism. Therefore, it is considered that there are other effective components in the extract. Although mannoside sodium glycerate contained in sea weed can not inhibit dehydrogenase, it can paralyze the autonomic movement of earthworm neuromuscular specimens, and it also has the effect of anthelmintic for puppies. Magnesium salts (magnesium lactate and magnesium kainate) in seaweed can inhibit the oxygen uptake of Ascaris lumbricoides muscle homogenate, and have strong effects on the movement and tissue respiration of Ascaris lumbricoides. The essential oils (terpenoids containing linalool, phenols containing m-cresol and fatty acids containing tetradecanoic acid) from sea weed have similar effects to those of sea weed oxalic acid, but they are weak. In the experiments of earthworm and Ascaris lumbricoides, substance P from seaweed has contractive effect on the whole body movement of Ascaris lumbricoides, while sodium mannoside glycerate has relaxant effect; substance P has very strong inhibition on tissue respiration, volatile oil also has this effect, but sodium mannoside glycerate has no such effect.

[toxicity] the dosage used in clinic has no side effect on human. Injection of 1-2 mg / kg kainic acid into rabbits can inhibit the heart, damage the liver and kidney, and change the number of blood cells; subcutaneous injection of kainic acid into dogs can directly act on the smooth muscle and stimulate the vomiting center, and induce vomiting. The median lethal dose of kainic acid in mice was 0.024 mg / G by subcutaneous injection and 0.12 mg / G by oral administration. The toxicity of mannoside sodium glycerate was also mild. No death was found in mice after oral administration of more than 6 mg / g.

[function indications] drive Ascaris lumbricoides.

[usage and dosage] oral administration: decoction, 2-3 yuan; or grinding powder.

[formula selection] ① to drive Ascaris lumbricoides: sea weed three money, six money, fried in water, with a little sugar, meal. (Modern Practical Chinese Medicine)

② Treatment of Ascaris lumbricoides chancroid eye: sea weed, black ugly, Kuyi. On the five flavors, fried in water. (ophthalmology brocade bag)
