[plant morphology] pigeonpea

Dwarf shrub, 1-3 m high, much branched. Branchlets weak, longitudinally furrowed, gray pilose. Stipules small; leaflets 3, ovate lanceolate, 5-10 cm long, 2-3 cm wide, apex acute, entire, hairy on both sides, with glandular spots below. Inflorescence racemose, axillary; calyx bell shaped, calyx teeth 5, lanceolate; corolla yellowish red, about 1.8 cm long, with purple brown longitudinal lines on the back of flag petal; stamens (9 + 1) 2 groups; style slender linear, base pubescent, stigma single, one. Pods 5-8 cm long, 1 cm wide, apex acuminate, densely yellow pubescent; seeds 3-5, suborbicular, testa dark red, sometimes brown spots. The flowering period is April (Guangzhou).

It grows on hillside, sandy land, open land, jungle or forest edge. Distributed in Sichuan, Guangdong, Guangxi, Taiwan and other places.
