Plant morphology of Gracilaria

The algae are erect, tufted, 10-50 cm high, up to 1 m, purplish brown, sometimes slightly green or yellow, brown after drying, cartilaginous, linear, cylindrical, with a disk-shaped fixator at the base, generally with a trunk, 1-2 mm in diameter, 1-2 branches, alternate or slant in all directions, branch diameter 0.5-1 mm.
