It is a biennial herb with stem height of 30-90cm and dense coarse hairs. Stem erect, sparsely branched. Leaves alternate, pinnatifid or hololobed, rarely entire, lobes linear lanceolate, acute, dentate margin. Flowers more than 5 cm in diameter, on top of branches, buds downward when open; sepals 2, hirsute outside. Petals 4, slightly round or broadly round, glossy, 3-4 cm long, entire, sometimes with round teeth or deep cracks, ochre red, deep purple, scarlet, few white or light red, sometimes with dark spots on the edge, the opposite two petals are larger than the other two petals; stamens are numerous; the center is bee pistil, ovary obovate, About 1.3 cm long, stigma radiate, covering the top of ovary.
