[plant morphology] Polygonum cuspidatum

Deciduous shrub, 2-4m high. Branches cylindrical, reddish brown, thin, open, villous when young, leaves alternate, petiolate; elliptic ovate, 2.5-5 cm long, 1-2 cm wide, apex acute, base cuneate, entire, both sides hairy when young, lower dense, gradually falling off when old, upper green, lower light green; stipules linear lanceolate. 2-5 flowers form a short cyme; pollen red (calyx tube campanulate or short tube shaped, with fine hairs outside, sepals triangular, apex acute). Fruit elliptic, about 1 cm long, black, usually 2-nucleated.

It grows in the Bush on the hillside. It is distributed in Hebei, Gansu, Inner Mongolia and Tibet.

[collection] harvest from June to August.

[flavor] bitter and astringent, flat.

Function indications: cool blood and stop bleeding. Treatment of epistaxis, gingival bleeding, menorrhagia.

[usage and dosage] oral administration: decoction, 1-3 yuan.
