Herbs perennial, prostrate or widely spreading, up to 60 cm long. The leaves are solitary or with 3 leaflets; stipules ovate triangular, upper part subulate; terminal leaflets are round or elliptic, 2.5-6 cm long, apex rounded or obtuse with small sharp, lateral leaflets are smaller, slightly rough above, pubescent below; racemes are terminal, densely cylindrical, ovate to rectangular, 3-6 cm long, 1.5-2 cm thick, hairy; bracts are broad ovate, 8 cm long The calyx is 5-6 mm long, the upper two lobes are short, and the lower three lobes are elongated, bristly and covered with sparse hairs; the Corolla is butterfly shaped, light purple, about 6 mm long, the flag petal is broad, and the wing petal is attached to the keel petal; the stamen is 2 bundles, and the top one is separated; the pistil is 1, and the style is linear and inward curved. Pods small, with 1 or 2 pods; pods elliptic, ca. 2.5 mm long, swollen, dark brown. The flowering period is October.

[medicinal materials] the dry stem of the rhizome has been cut off, about 20-30 cm long, about 0.2-0.4 cm thick, grayish brown to grayish green; the leaves are leathery, grayish green, the veins are slightly prominent on the back, covered with yellowish brown hairs; the branches and inflorescences are dense, the Corolla is atrophied, most of them fall off; the pods are oval, dark brown and bright, with reticular veins, thin skin, no cracking, containing a light yellow seed. It is better to be dry and free of sediment.
