Perennial herbs, 35-70 cm high. Stem erect, glabrous, unbranched, tetragonal; internodes unequal, purplish red. Leaves opposite or whorled, long lanceolate, entire, base gradually narrowed into sheath like amplexicaul. Racemose cyme, axillary or terminal; calyx 5, light green, obliquely lanceolate, half shorter than corolla; corolla green, with small dark brown spots, 5-lobed, with a glandular pit with long hairs at the margin below the lobes; stamens 5, brown; stigma 2-lobed. Capsule elliptic, green.

It grows in high mountains, gullies and forest margins. Distributed in Sichuan, Gansu, Shaanxi, Shanxi, Hebei and other places.

[selected prescriptions] ① treatment of jaundice and hepatitis: hongzhidangyao, caudate root, fenchen, huajinyaozi. Take it by frying.

② Treatment of sore throat: red straight as medicine, open throat arrow, Mabo, gypsum, Scutellaria. Take it by frying.

③ Treatment of syphilis: red straight as medicine, honeysuckle, Sophora flavescens, soil Coptis, pig bile. Take it by frying.

④ Treatment sore swelling: red straight as medicine, drooping chrysanthemum, dandelion, cow ear rhubarb. Tamp the affected area.
