Small trees or shrubs, 7-8 m high. Branches bare, cylindrical. The leaves are double pinnate, 20-30 cm long, 4-6 pairs of leaflets, long elliptic, 4-12 cm long. 5-5 cm wide, apex acuminate or obliquely pointed, base rounded or obtuse; stipules small, subulate, caducous. Panicle terminal, 20 cm long; bracts elliptic, 1 cm long, scarlet, hairy; flowers purplish red; calyx tubular, tube length 8-12 mm, 4-lobed, lobes oblong, retroflexed after anthesis; petals 5, upper 3 developed, spatulate, clawed, lower 2 degenerated and very thin; stamens 2 developed, the rest degenerated into pseudostamens; ovary stipitate, stigma terminal.
