Barley

Annual herb, 60-100 cm high. Culms erect, smooth, glabrous. Leaf sheaths glabrous, sometimes sparsely pilose on basal leaves, with curved furrow like auricles on both sides of the sheath; ligule small, 1-2 mm long, membranous; leaf blade flat, long lanceolate, 8-18 cm long, 6-1b mm wide, rough above and smooth below. Spike, 4-10 cm long, divided into several nodes, each node bearing 3 fully developed spikelets, spikelets about 2 cm long, usually sessile, each spikelet has a flower, glumes are linear or linear lanceolate, slightly pubescent, xianrui elongated into short awn, only 8-14 mm long; lemma oblong lanceolate, smooth, with 5 longitudinal veins, midrib elongated into long awn, very rough, 8-14 mm long The lemma is as long as palea, with 3 stamens, 1 ovary and 2 styles. Caryopsis and palea are united, rarely separated, caryopsis dorsal groove. The flowering period is from March to April. The fruit period is from April to May.

It is cultivated all over the country.
