The Cross Sea Channel Management Center stated that during the construction process, the cross sea channel has overcome multiple construction challenges through technological innovation, including frequent occurrence of super typhoons and difficulty in wind resistant design; The project crosses multiple waterways, posing a high risk of collision with ships; The marine corrosive environment is harsh and requires high durability guarantees

According to reports, the cross sea passage began construction in June 2020 as the western extension of the Hong Kong Zhuhai Macau Bridge, connecting Pingsha Town in Zhuhai and Doushan Town in Taishan City, Jiangmen City. The total length is about 31 kilometers, with a cross sea section of about 14 kilometers. The two main bridges are Gaolan Port Bridge and Huangmaohai Bridge, which are equipped with tunnels and service areas.
